Made exactly as directed. Perfectly smooth, not thick(I used the water, not ice) & great flavor. Not bitter at all.

This was the worst drink I have ever tried.  Completely tasteless. Much too thick.  The above comments seem to all have fundamentally altered the recipe,.. which it needed. My husband will try anything and he thought it was dreadful.

Added 1T flaxseed, 1/2 tsp. each of cinnamon and turmeric (I put in all smoothies), and used more kale (dinosaur) and mostly frozen blackberries, some frozen raspberries and a handful of fresh blueberries.  It is yummy!

You can add avocado instead of the bananas, works well

Holly Levine,

You could try using mori silken soy to thicken it up.

I'm allergic to banana and plantains. Any suggested substitutes? Use frozen pineapple, strawberries and peaches but miss the thickening power of the banana!

Add a tablespoon of flaxmeal. That will thicken it up nicely.

You can. Substitute water for the milk. I also use cherries now and reduce the berries in the mix---it is wonderful. If you use some lemon or banana, it will take bitterness of the kale away. Enjoy!

This was delicious. I used 1 cup frozen strawberries and a half cup each of fresh raspberries and blueberries. Next time I would probably add more kale because i think I could add another half cup and still love the taste.

Switched some bok choy instead of spinach and used frozen peaches instead of the mangoes. Also didn't add so many berries! Very pungent and bitter but great eye wakener!!
